Caran d'Ache Chromatics is an INKredible range of luxury ink, safe for use in all fountain pens, with 12 original and vibrant shades to help bring inspiration to your writing.
No ordinary bottle would do for such extraordinary shades, so Caran d'Ache have designed something quite special. From their basic pencils and office ballpoints, through to their most exquisite jewel-studded luxury writing instruments, the most distinctive Caran d'Ache design is the hexagon. It's the cross-section of most of their pens and pencils, from the classic 849 Metal Series to the modern RNX.316; and so it forms the cross-section to these ink bottles too. With the bottle sitting neatly in the base of the sturdy card presentation box, it's a nicely stylish hexagonal bottle, with a shiny metal cap. Lift the bottle out of the box, though, and a neat trick reveals itself.
The base is angled, not flat, so the bottle doesn't sit upright on your desk. For filling, put the bottle back into the base of the box, and it's held upright, gripped by the strong sides. Now, the base is angled, so the ink settles into the narrow corner, letting you fill your pen even when the ink level runs low.
Solid hexagonal glass bottle with polished chrome cap contains 50ml of ink.

Caran d'Ache is familiar to many for their excellent range of coloured pencils. However, Switzerland's premier manufacturer of writing instruments and art products has a wide range of items from simple office items through the classic Fixpencil clutch pencils and 849 Metal Ballpoints to the highly desirable Ecridor premium range and beyond. All are made with uncompromising attention to detail and to the highest quality.
Caran d'Ache was the pen name by which French illustrator, Emmanuel Poiré, achieved worldwide renown in the 19th century. “Karandash” is the Russian term for “pencil” and in turn comes from the Turkish root “kara tash” which refers to black stone – the origins of graphite.
This natural material found in the mountains of Switzerland gave rise to the first Swiss pencil factory, in Geneva in 1915. Nine years later, in the hands of its founder, Arnold Schweitzer, it took the name of the famous illustrator and became known as Caran d'Ache.
