Note - this set includes the smart pen and a small notebook for testing. You will need a notebook or planner from Moleskine's Smart Writing range to get real use out of the pen. The Smart Writing Set is also available, and contains a notebook too - a more compete kit if the included notebook is suitable for you, or as a gift.

We love pens, notebooks, and analog note-taking. Well, we're a bit biased here, but there's a simplicity about pen and paper that the digital world can't match.

But. Yes, there's a but, even for us. But those notes in our notebooks can be lost among the pages, hard to find later, and hard to share. Taking notes in a notebook is great, but if those notes are going to be acted on, we usually end up moving them into the digital world - into OneNote, or the Notes app, or an email. Which adds an extra step to the whole process.

Which is where the Moleskine Smart Writing System comes in.

A combination of a special pen with a sensor tucked under the tip, and special notebooks with a subtle but intricate pattern on the paper, and suddenly the pen knows what notebook it's being used in, what page it's writing in, and exactly how it's moving and marking the paper.

The result is that when the pen connects with the app on your phone later, everything you've written moves into the app, captured digitally. Your analog notes have moved themselves into the digital world for you.

The transcription feature can turn your written notes into text for copying and pasting elsewhere - very useful, but how well it works will depend on your handwriting - while most people report quite good results, without too much editing needed, results will vary.
