Win a Pilot Capless Retractable Fountain Pen

Much sought after and admired, the Capless fountain pen by Pilot is the perfect combination of luxury and technology. We're delighted to announce that we've teamed up with Pilot Pens UK to give you the chance to win one of these pens for yourself! Before we get to that, here's a bit more about how the Capless came to be, and more importantly, what makes it so special.

In 1964, Pilot's engineers created many new products to celebrate the Tokyo Olympic games, but the greatest of their achievements was the Capless fountain pen, or as it's known in America, the 'Vanishing Point'. The Capless works with a simple push-button system that withdraws the nib into the body, closing an air-tight seal behind it, which prevents it from drying out or leaving ink stains on your clothes. The Capless can be filled easily and conveniently with ink cartridges, but is also supplied with a converter to allow the use of bottled ink.

Capless pens are available in a wide range of finishes, including the prestigious Namiki Raden, with hundreds of fragments of abalone shell set in ten hand-applied layers of lacquer. All Capless pens are supplied in luxury gift boxes.

Although Pilot are better known in the UK for their simple, but great quality, gel- and liquid-ink rollerball pens, their fine writing instruments are considered by experts and enthusiasts to be of exceedingly high quality. Pilot nibs are held in the same esteem as Pelikan, Waterman and other high-end manufacturers.

Did you know? The Independent newspaper, recommended the Pilot Capless as its Best Buy in a feature on the 10 Best Fountain Pens.

Its time to reveal who has won our Pilot Capless competition! But before we get to that, we all need to know the answer to the entry question - What's so special about Pilot's FriXion range of pens? The answer, of course, is that Pilot's FriXion range of pens are erasable and refillable, and you can find out more here: http://www.cultpens.com/acatalog/Pilot-Frixion-Pens.html All correct entries, of which there were many, were placed in a generator and one lucky winner selected at random. The winner is (pause for dramatic effect)... - David Sword Congratulations! We will be in contact very soon about claiming your prize. Thank you to everyone that entered! Sorry you can't all be winners but we do run regular competitions, so watch out for those on our Facebook and Twitter pages as well as right here on our blog.

I probably won't win, but you've got to be in it to win it, right? :)

  • Jackie Cartwright 31 May 2013

Now what could be better than writing (or sketching!) with a traditional fountain pen?...answer: writing with the Pilot Capless Fountain Pen...so there's no danger of me losing the lid! Beautiful, innovative design, well done to Pilot! ...and three cheers to Cult pens!

  • Bear 31 May 2013

I love my Capless (Carbonesque Black) and use it as my everyday pen, along with Pilot Frictxion clicker (0.7) for jotting notes. I'd love to win so that I could have another setup with a converter and interesting ink colour rather than cartridges for ease of use.

  • Gemma maggs 31 May 2013

I absolutely love writing with a proper fountain pen, and a chance to win one of these gorgeous pens is fabulous. Thank you cult pens for bringing us such an amazing selection of delicious pens/pencils, I've spent many ours drooling over your website lol Thanks for the chance to win x

I have such a pen fettish. This is a gorgeous pen. How could one resist not buying it if they didn't win? Thanks for bringing attention to it and the eraseable one. I find this sector rather lacking in really being eraseable as well as in design.

The Pilot capless and I have one thing in common - age!! it's as old as me!! Hopefully I'll fair better than the Great Cult Pens Easter Egg Hunt, getting too old for that as well!!

  • SPike 21 May 2013

Excellent pen. Use mine daily and extremely happy with it.

  • Michael Nixon 18 May 2013

Having recently bought a Pilot Prera iro-ai with a fine nib from you, I have "caught the bug" and would absolutely LOVE the chance to own a fountain pen as beautiful and functional as the Pilot Capless. I would treasure it! It's so much easier to write with a decent fountain pen.

  • Peter Neall 16 May 2013

  • Nicolae 15 May 2013

Curently i'm using a Parker IM FP along with an RB or BP, but i'll be proud to use this nice writing instrument.

  • James 15 May 2013

This looks to be an elegant blend of engineering and function. Excellent!

  • Jane 14 May 2013

What an elegant looking pen. Intrigued by this concept. Great competition. Thank you.

  • jim parker 10 May 2013

There's nothing like the joy of writing with a pen that just feels 'right' in your hand - I keep hoping to win a special pen that I can not only enjoy using but can pass on to my son but, so far, it's not hap'pen'ing! :(

  • Andy Barnett 9 May 2013

A brilliant pen, I've always wanted one in my fountain pen collection.

  • Andy ZE 9 May 2013

I have one of these as my daily user, and another three in my collection. Superb pens. One of the very few retractable fountain pens on the market. Ultra-reliable, rugged and well made.

  • Nick Smith 9 May 2013

I love writing with a good quality fountain pen!

  • Karen Jolley 9 May 2013

What a brilliant pen. I would love to have one in my collection.

  • John the Monkey 9 May 2013

Wow - what a great prize!

  • BrianSJ 9 May 2013

The capless pen is such a cool idea. I have more or less given up on fountain pens because of leaking on aeroplanes - Pentel Tradio for me. If I won, I'd give it to my daughter who is a teacher; it would have to give her an edge in class!

  • chris furness 9 May 2013

I never win - but there has to be a first time for everything!
